Flouride

For decades,we have been drinking water laced with flouride without giving it any second thoughts. Only recently have people begun to realize everything is not well with this seemingly innocuous chemical being added in our water.

Before we take a look at the toxicity level of flouride, first let’s find out the history behind it. That may give some clues into its effectiveness and even its dangers.

Back in the 1940s, a study found lower levels of dental decay amongst children in a particular area where the water supply contained higher levels of flouride than normal. This high occurrence of flouride was linked to the dental health of the children and a decision was taken to add flouride in our drinking water supply there onwards.

The problem is – newer studies have failed to establish any link between high flouride levels and prevention of dental decay. The water we drink anyway spends too little time on the teeth for the flouride to be able to have any effect on them.

If anything, high levels of this chemical can cause a number of health problems. Dental flourosis and a stunted brain development in children are two of the major risks that this carries.






























The government recommends having a maximum of 1.0 ppm of flouride in our drinking water. Anything above that can lead to flourosis or poisoning. Fact is – most of us are exposed to much higher levels than that, as the food or drinks we take are all prepared with water containing flouride. Even the toothpaste we use daily contains flouride inside and adds to its buildup in our body. All these can make the total flouride content in your body to be even up to 2.7 ppm.

Even well water – if you have access to it – is not safe from flouride. As the natural water passes through the underground rocks and soil, it absorbs flouride compounds from the environment and when it finally reaches your well, it already has enough of the compound to be able to harm your health.

Chlorine has been used as a disinfectant for a long time now. While it is a good disinfectant for sure, it has its own disadvantages as well. Chlorine tends to react with the organic substances present in water and produce THMs, chloroform, and other such compounds which are very dangerous for your health.

These compounds are carcinogenic in nature - they are well known cancer causing agents. So, while chlorine disinfects water and reduces the chances of cholera and typhoid, it reacts with the substances in water and increases the chances of cancer. That's not very encouraging to hear, right?

Some heavy metals - such as cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, vanadium, strontium, and zinc - are essential to health in trace amounts. Others are non-essential and can be harmful to health in excessive amounts. These include cadmium, antimony, chromium, mercury, lead, and arsenic.
































According to various studies, drinking chlorinated water regularly increases the risks of heart diseases, fertility problems, immune system breakdown, asthma, lung damage, thyroid problems, and cancer. Now tell me - why would anyone in his right mind drink chlorinated water after knowing this?

*The reason for not using these recommended techniques is the cost and effort required in them. Instead the technique they resort to is - using Chlorine.

Why are There Drugs in our Drinking Water?

Drugs make it into the water supply through human waste. When we swallow a pill, a vast majority of it passes through our system and into our bodily waste. When we flush this waste, the drugs go with it to the water treatment facilities, where it makes its way into our water supply.


You might be thinking, “But they treat our water, so why are the drugs still there?” This is where the question of why there are drugs in our water is answered. Current water treatment facilities are set up to rid water of certain bacteria, such as typhoid and cholera, and are thus treated with chlorine. Chlorine, however does not remove drugs, nor does it remove pesticides or even lead. Furthermore, the chlorine remains in our water after treatment, and is left in at levels that are deemed unsafe to swim in. That thought does not make you very thirsty, does it?








Causes of arsenic toxicity include ingestion of arsenic (found in insect poisons), skin contact (e.g. some linseed oils) and even drinking water. The symptoms of toxic heavy metal poisoning and the symptoms of autism, PDD, Aspergers, & ADD/ ADHD are very similar. All metals are toxic and our bodies require special transport and handling mechanisms to keep them from harming us. Metals can directly and indirectly damage DNA and that means an increased risk of cancer (we call this genotoxicity).

There are also possibly non-genotoxic pathways, due to irritation or immuno-toxicity. Toxic metals could be the cause of those symptoms.
